Prince George PCSC Program
With funding from the BC Ministry of Health in 2018, the Vancouver Prostate Centre has partnered with BC Cancer to implement the Prostate Cancer Supportive Care (PCSC) Program in Prince George at the BC Cancer Agency’s Centre for the North. The PCSC program is already successfully running at BC Cancer Victoria and Kelowna. Implementation of the program in Prince George began in October of 2018. The program is being led by Dr. Stacy Miller, Radiation Oncologist and Regional Medical Director. Dr. Miller has a passion for providing optimal care to cancer patients. She has extensive experience working with prostate cancer patients, and is very excited to provide this supportive care program to our patients. Assisting Dr. Miller with this initiative is an oncology nurse from Prince George. Brittany Schultz, Registered Nurse, will be the nurse coordinator of the program. Brittany is excited to utilize her oncology nursing experience to support patients and their families and help them navigate the health care system. Britany is completing Sexual Rehabilitation training at BCIT and will provide sexual health rehabilitation to PCSC patients in the future. Brittany will also provide a group education session on Androgen Deprivation Therapy in the New Year. The Prince George PCSC program is delighted to work collaboratively with urologists from Northern Health, including Dr. Rahul Hampole, Urologist lead. Olivia Jebbink, Registered Dietician, is another valuable member of our team, with 3 Years of oncology experience. Olivia will offer patients individual dietary support as well as provide a group education session twice monthly, starting in the New Year.
The PCSC Program in Prince George offered their first Module 1 ‘Introduction to Prostate Cancer & Primary Treatment Options’ in November 2018. These sessions will continue to be held monthly in the New Year. Currently the PCSC program education sessions are offered locally at Centre for the North in Prince George, but work is underway to provide these sessions via telehealth to our remote sites across Northern British Columbia. Kelowna and Victoria are also working towards this goal for their regions. This is exciting as it will provide greater access to supportive care across the province.
Stay tuned for updates as the PCSC Program expands in Prince George.
